Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day, LMCC Executive Director Regina Gayle Phillips met with Action News Jax to discuss the legacy of Dr. King in Saint Augustine. During the summer of 1964, Dr. King worked alongside local activists in marches and sit-ins to protest the segregation and brutality that Black citizens experienced in Saint Augustine. Their efforts impacted the signing of the Civil Rights act on July 2nd, 1964, which called for the integration of public schools and banned discrimination based on color or race.
