Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center is a USA TODAY 10Best Readers Choice Winner for Best Small Town Museum

The Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center (LMCC) was voted fifth place in the  2024 USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice travel award contest for Best Small Town Museum.  The LMCC was the only Florida museum in this category for the 2024 year. The public was allowed to vote once per day from January 16, through February 12, 2024.

The LMCC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. and an African American history museum located in the Lincolnville Historic District of Saint Augustine, FL. Its mission is to preserve, promote and perpetuate 500 years of Black history through interpretive displays, educational programs, the arts and cultural programs. The museum’s storylines begin with pre-colonialism and expand throughout the Civil Rights Movement and beyond.  Among its prized artifacts is the fingerprint card from the arrest of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr archiving his movement efforts in St. Augustine in the 1960s, and an original section of the Woolworth counter that local student activists sat on in protest of segregation. 

The LMCC was selected for this contest in which nominees are chosen by a panel of relevant experts which include a combination of editors from USA TODAY and10Best.com and other Gannett properties. The LMCC covers over 500 years of African American history and is housed in the first high school for African American students in the county.

The contest and winners are promoted across USA TODAY Travel Media Group's digital and mobile products, as well as via social media. Nominees are also announced and/or promoted across relevant USA TODAY departments, and through Gannett media outlets. 10Best.com averages 5 million visitors per month. This promotion and publicity of the LMCC is monumental to allow those around the nation to learn about the rich history we preserve.
