This year marks the 200th anniversary of Saint Johns County. On July 21st, 1821, after the signing of the Adams-Onis Treaty, Andrew Jackson founded Saint Johns County. Its original boundaries started on the east side of the Suwannee River, encompassing all of East Florida. There will be a variety of events throughout July to celebrate and educate people about the county’s founding.
On July 17th, 2021, the SJC Public Library in conjunction with the SJC Cultural Council, presents Then, Now, and the Future Symposium, highlighting the different communities living here throughout Saint Johns County’s history. Executive Director Regina Gayle Phillips among others will speak on the county’s history. This event is free and will take place from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. at the Lewis Auditorium.
