Lincolnville Youth Arts Series

The Lincolnville Youth Arts Series was a partnership between THE PLAYERS Championship Club of the Boys and Girls Club and the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center. Student participants were introduced to African and African American artists and art traditions from Romare Bearden’s collages to the textiles of West Africa. Each lesson was accompanied by a hands-on workshop led by a professional artist. Explore below to see the presentations, our guest artists and the artist statements produced by the participants!

This project was made possible through a grant from the St. Johns Cultural Council, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and the State of Florida State of the Arts License Plate Grant Program.

Artist Statements

Alicia Longmore, Baby Blue, 2021.

Ambrosia Campbell, Fashion icon’s, 2021.

I was inspired by the fashion in GQ. Giving very much proportion because, they have many sizes. In this art piece I learned to use unity by using a little of the same informational pictures. My artwork tells the viewer that I have a lot of fashion statements which builds my piece into a name called Fashion icon’s.

Diamond, Collage, 2021.

Fancy, The Girl That Starts Fire, 2021.

The materials I used for this specific piece were acrylic paint and canvas. The technique I used was value through the hair and also the skin. I got my inspiration from Google, but I drew it in a different form.

The problem that I had was trying to mix the colors. I will draw a self portrait. What I used to create this was line, value, shapes and color.

Kassi, Freestyle (Rainbow Youtubers), 2021.

Alicia Longmore, Baby Blue, 2021.

To make Baby Blue, I used smaller scale paint brushes with pink, blue, white, gray and teal paint. I was inspired by art pieces that blended and used similar colors to display transforming colors.

I was challenged when I used the pink paint and had trouble blending it into blue. I would use more white in it for blue next time! The elements I used were blending and transformation to mimic movement of transforming. My art tells the viewer of the aesthetic and beauty in simple art.

Diamond, Collage, 2021.

I made a collage about Megan Thee Stallion. She’s a pretty Black rapper who has been following her dreams. My collage came out good, it has many shapes and sizes but the same woman. I also gave many facts about her, so it was educational, neat and pretty!

Fancy, The Girl That Starts Fire, 2021.

Kassi, Freestyle (Rainbow Youtubers), 2021.

I created this art by using acrylic paint on a canvas. I was inspired by my favorite Youtubers. Every color in the rainbow is beautiful no matter what. I would have more space at the bottom. The principles I used were movement, color, value, rhythm, and unity. I represent rhythm through color.
